SWOG Spring 2026 Plenary: A Dialogue with Members

The spring 2026 group meeting will be the first under the leadership of SWOG’s new group chairs – Dr. Primo “Lucky” N. Lara, Jr., and Dr. Dawn L. Hershman. At Friday’s plenary session, Drs. Lara and Hershman will review the group’s extraordinary accomplishments and impact over recent years, and will recognize and honor the leaders behind those achievements.

After introducing several incoming leaders, they will outline their vision for the next era of SWOG success. Central to that vision is you, SWOG’s members who carry out the research and patient care that improve the lives of those with cancer.

So the second half of the spring plenary will be an interactive town hall-style forum devoted to a dialogue on the future of your cooperative group. Bring your questions for the new leadership. Bring your concerns and ideas. Drs. Lara and Hershman want to engage in a dialogue with you, SWOG’s members.

Dr. Michael LeBlanc, SWOG group statistician, and Dr. James Rae, SWOG vice chair for translational medicine, will also speak.

The spring plenary will take place Friday, May 1, 2026, 2 – 4 pm PT, at the San Francisco Hyatt Regency, and everywhere online.

Please join us for the TAKE ACTION Symposium presented by the SWOG Recruitment and Retention Committee on Thursday, April 30, 2:30 – 4:30 pm PT focusing on the vital role of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) in expanding access to oncology clinical trials. This interactive session will highlight 1) Why APP integration is essential for improving patient access and retention, 2) Current challenges and opportunities for APPs in oncology research, and 3) Practical strategies for defining roles, enhancing compliance and training, and optimizing workflows across MD/APP/CRC teams. Case examples and community‑focused approaches will demonstrate how APP‑led engagement strengthens both trial enrollment and continuity of care.
