SWOG Lymphoma Committee Chair

SWOG seeks a dynamic individual who will bring leadership skills, scientific interests, and expertise in lymphoma cancer to a vibrant and highly motivated national Cooperative Group network by serving as Chair of SWOG’s Lymphoma Committee.


The SWOG Lymphoma Committee designs, implements, and executes multidisciplinary clinical research studies with the goal of improved treatments for lymphoma, and enhancement of quality of life for cancer survivors. Future direction is driven by the integration of the diverse strengths within the Committee including translational science and multispecialty clinical expertise. The Committee actively collaborates with other Groups in the National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN).

We are looking for a candidate with nationally recognized expertise in lymphoma research, including the planning and conducting of clinical trials and identification and/or use of biomarkers for lymphomas. Extensive experience in a cooperative group environment and active participation in NCTN clinical trials is essential. Experience in fostering Team Science, involving the range of disciplines in the Lymphoma Committee including hematology oncology, radiation oncology, translational medicine, and biostatistics is preferred.

Other important elements of the position include:

  • Prioritizing the work of SWOG and Lymphoma Committee members to maximize the impact of Lymphoma Committee trials. As the Lymphoma Committee conducts clinical trials in all lymphoma malignancies, achieving a balance among these to maximize the benefit to patients is essential.
  • Continuation of the historic emphasis of the Lymphoma Committee on the professional and academic development of early career Committee members.
  • Prioritizing and sustaining, high level of collaboration with other NCTN lymphoma groups is central to the role of the SWOG Lymphoma Committee. 
  • Fostering a diverse group of investigators as well as ensuring broad representation of patient populations in clinical trial accruals.

SWOG Committee Chairs oversee the science in their committee, stimulate investigators to produce innovative trial strategies, and facilitate the development of these strategies into quality Group protocols. They are expected to maintain a comprehensive understanding of the scientific and clinical issues relevant to the Committee and an awareness of studies being performed and planned by other groups and institutions. Chairs also work with the NCI and other national leaders to plan new studies, as well as review and evaluate proposed study capsules, concepts, and major amendments for scientific merit, clarity, and feasibility.  Committee Chairs are also expected to contribute substantively to the periodic NCTN SWOG grant renewals as well as to provide input to the annual Research Performance Progress Reports.

A SWOG Committee Chair may serve up to three consecutive five-year terms with an annual performance review by the Group Chair and a mid-term 360-degree performance evaluation. Effort is budgeted at 20% and will be compensated in keeping with NIH scaling.
