At the start of each new year, we take a moment to size up the one which just ended, highlight some of what we’ve accomplished, quantify a few key performance measures, and wrap it up in a hopefully compact package.

Here’s a sampling of highlights from the 2025 report:

We launched the first trial in small cell lung cancer to assign patients to one of several targeted treatment options based on the molecular subtype of their cancer (something we’ve been doing in non-small cell lung cancer for some time).

We celebrated the results of 25 years of our flagship mentoring and training program for SWOG clinical trialists and future leaders.

We earned terrific scores – and recommendations for continued funding – on our applications for the next cycle of grants supporting our NCI National Clinical Trials Network operations and statistics cores.

And because crafting those grant applications required pulling together big picture numbers that reflect the entire grant cycle, we share a few of those “long view” numbers in this Impact Report as well –  more than 80 trials launched, more than 700 … (read more).

We put new muscle behind our commitment to integrating members and perspectives from our community-based sites into all stages of trial development and execution – appointing our first executive officer for community site engagement.

We saw the Food and Drug Administration grant priority review (expected by spring) of a proposed new indication for a treatment combination that convincingly outperformed the standard of care in a recently published SWOG trial.

We presented results of a landmark trial at ASCO that, while technically a “negative” trial, also reported historic results that should make it a model for future studies that are leaner, faster, and easier to enroll to.

Behind the scenes, in a year that brought us yet new funding cuts and at times nail-biting uncertainty about the level of future support, The Hope Foundation for Cancer Research (as always) had our back – to the tune of almost $3 million!

Details, and additional highlights and metrics, are in the 2025 Impact Report itself. I encourage you to take a look at this snapshot of just some of what we’ve achieved.
