SWOG Operations Office by the Numbers for 2013

Mar 7, 2014 - SWOG's Operations Office in San Antonio represents a large part of the Group's infrastructure. Ops develops and manages protocols, enrolls and tracks members and member institutions, conducts quality assurance audits, plans and sets up semiannual group meetings (along with numerous smaller meetings), hosts and maintains the SWOG website, manages our set of online learning modules, corresponds with the NCI or FDA (almost continuously!), and generally handles much of the day to day business of SWOG.

Here's a number portrait of SWOG's Ops Office functioning in 2013:

  • 37 new institutions registered
  • 472 new investigators enrolled
  • 975 new research support staff members added
  • 5 international groups supported
  • 457 conference calls hosted
  • 7 SWOG-led trials activated
  • 5 non-SWOG trials activated
  • 10 SWOG-led trials closed
  • 20 INDs opened or reported on
  • 120 site audits conducted
  • 55 sites visited for audits
  • 738 patient cases audited
  • 503 serious adverse events (SAEs) reviewed and reported to the NCI
  • 1,661 attendees hosted at semiannual group meetings
  • 102 reimbursement reports processed for travelers
  • 600+ IT work orders completed
  • 25 training videos uploaded
Last week I gave you some numbers for SWOG publications, where our scientific output is presented to the medical community. The numbers above represent the work enabling that work. While much of the work done by Ops occurs without a lot of public acknowledgment or accreditation, our Ops members are a vital part of our success to date, and I am quite grateful for what they do and how hard they work.
