Dec 20, 2013 -
As the year concludes and many plan holiday festivities, I want to acknowledge and thank all of those who put in time and effort above and beyond the call of duty during 2013.
Thanks go first to our docs, nurses, and clinical research associates for enrolling volunteers to our clinical trials and for their dual commitment to caring for patients while conducting the research that will let them continually improve that care.
My gratitude goes out to the hard-working fund-raisers and coordinators of our HOPE Foundation. In this age of shrinking federal funds, we could not fulfill our mission without you.
Thanks also to all of those who are pioneering the future of cancer trials by conceiving of, designing, fine-tuning, and activating SWOG research studies, including investigators and patient advocates. A shout-out goes to Committee leadership as well, for coordinating the important work we do.
In a year of transition, I send heartfelt thanks to SWOG's Deputy, Vice, Associate, and Statistical Chairs for helping me learn and begin to execute the Group Chair's role, to our Executive officers for sharing their expertise and serving as sounding boards, and to SWOG staff for multiple roles too numerous to list! Thanks as well to my colleagues at OHSU for helping SWOG set up its new home.
At the end of both 2012 and 2013, we finished with a burst of frantic grant writing; this year I thank all those who've contributed to the production of SWOG's NCORP Research Base grant application, now nearing completion. Of course I thank our (to be re-named) NCORP Community and Minority/Underserved-Community Sites as well.
Finally, thank you to all our members and to those who volunteer to take part in our clinical trials; without your generosity and hope, progress would be impossible.
Happy holidays. I hope 2014 is good to you and your families!
